Taking pastel shades into your hair is still a fashion trend this summer too. We see orders for pastel colours increasing again this year during the summer months. Have you already combined your hair colour with a pretty pastel shade?
Or do you not dare to do it yet but think it looks great on someone else. We would like to give you more information. Maybe after reading this blog you will also dare to go for a nice pastel colour in your hair.
WHAT EXACTLY IS A PASTEL SHADE?
A pastel shade is created by mixing a pure pigment with a light colour. This mixing creates a softer shade which is called pastel shade. You can think of, for example, mixing the colours red, blue, green and purple with a colour like white or light yellow. Coming up with a beautiful pastel shade exactly can be tricky and that's why Nouvelle has the Pastiss line. 7 beautiful pastel shades already ready to use.
CAN I ALSO PUT A PASTEL SHADE IN MY HAIR?
Whether you can also do a pastel shade in your hair depends on your current hair colour and whether your hair is in the right health, your hair quality.
If your hair colour is blonde, setting pastel shades will cause almost no problems. If your hair colour is dark, it becomes more difficult. Pastel shades are light colours and of course you are supposed to see the pastel shade. So you will first have to decolourise your hair so that the pastel shade can be applied.
When your hair is dry or damaged, it is unfortunately not possible to use pastel shades in your hair. Due to the damage in your hair, your hair cuticles are damaged and holes are created in your outer layer. The pigment of the pastel shade will then leave your hair through these holes and thus cannot settle. The pastel shade will therefore not stay put. If the damage is minimal and the pastel shade has taken hold, the pastel shade may fade more quickly than with healthy hair. For healthy hair, the pastel shade should definitely last up to 6 washes. If the scales are open, the colour pigments will fade faster. Also, when lightening your hair before you can set the pastel shade, you damage the hair somewhat and this can also result in your pastel shade appearing to fade faster.
MAINTAINING YOUR PASTEL SHADES IN YOUR HAIR
When you finally have those beautiful pastel shades in your hair, you naturally want to enjoy them for as long as possible. So what is the best way to keep your pastel colouring beautiful for as long as possible?
Wash your hair as little as possible. The more you wash your hair, the more colour pigment is lost as the cuticle is opened during washing. We advise you not to wash your hair more than twice a week. A tip here is that washing your hair with cold water can sometimes have a positive extension on your pastel shade.
Wash your hair with a good professional colour-protecting shampoo and colour conditioner. These are gentler on your hair and the colour pigments of your pastel colouring will be less likely to be washed away as a result. The colour conditioner will cause your hair cuticles to close and cover them with a protective layer. The colour will be preserved and will also make it look more radiant.
Unstress your hair with a hair mask. Doing this once a week is more than enough to give your hair another nice boost.
If you want, you could also use a colour refresher in between. A colour refresher gives your hair new colour pigments so you can enjoy your pastel shade for longer.
